I’m what some people call a ‘hapa.’ It used to be a derogatory term, I think, but there was an art exhibit in SF in like… 2006? 2007? That showcased people of mixed Asian decent. It’s a hawaiian term that people use to embrace themselves as whatever they chose to be, whether they agree that they are Japanese, mixed, American, etc. But I’m technically first generation, half-korean. I can’t tell you my other half because my father was adopted, but he was some kind of white.
